Frequently asked questions

Is there a free self-guided tour of downtown Birmingham?
Yes. This mythology-themed game is free to play on your phone. You start whenever you like, with no guide and no group to join, and walk 2.3 km past ten downtown stops, including Railroad Park, the Alabama Theatre and Walk of Fame, and McWane Science Center.
Does the route go through the Rainbow LED Tunnel in Birmingham?
Yes. The Rainbow LED Tunnel is the third stop, after Railroad Park and the Rotary Trail and before The Heaviest Corner On Earth. As at every stop, the app tells you about the place and sets a puzzle based on what is in front of you.
Where does the quest start and finish, and how long does it take?
It starts at Railroad Park and finishes at The Pizitz Food Hall, so it does not return to the start. Most players take about an hour and a half to cover the 2.3 km, including the walking and the puzzles at each stop.
Is it good for kids?
It suits families with school-age children who enjoy a story-driven game, here built around Vulcan, Mercury and a stolen hammer. Keep in mind the 2.3 km of walking and about an hour and a half of play, which can be a lot for very young children.
Do we need to book a time, and can we pause?
No booking is needed. You can start any time, and it is free to play, so a whole group can join in. If you need a break, pause the game and continue later from where you stopped.
