Frequently asked questions
What was Tomis, and does this walk cover it?
Tomis was the small Greek colony on the Black Sea shore that grew into today's Constanta. The walk opens at a stop called Where It All Began and follows the city's story through the Greeks, Romans, Ottomans and the Romanian royal family, with a puzzle at each place.
Where does the Tomis to Constanta walk start and finish?
It starts at Where It All Began and finishes at Beyond the Map, by the harbour, so it does not return to the starting point. In between are stops such as Rome Lives On, The Poet in Exile, Many Faiths, One City and The Keeper's Light, covering 2.7 km on foot.
How long does it take?
Most players take about 75 minutes, including the walking and the puzzles. There is no fixed start time, so you can begin whenever suits you, and you can pause the quest and pick it up again later if you want a coffee or a break.
Can we play as a group, and is it good for kids?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together on a phone, and the quest is tagged as a squad challenge and a family favourite. School-age children who enjoy puzzles tend to do well, with adults helping on the trickier history questions.
Is the walk outdoors, and what should we bring?
The route runs outdoors through the streets to the harbour, so dress for the weather. The quest is played on your phone, so make sure it is fully charged before you start or bring a power bank along.
