The experience

About this quest

Play a city game where you will follow clues to discover the mesmerizing buildings of Delft, the historical city in the vicinity of Rotterdam and The Hague, famous for its blue pottery and connection to the reigning House of Orange-Nassau.

Get immersed in the city’s rich cultural history, discover the stories of iconic Dutch figures, such as the painter Jan Vermeer and the scientist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, and stroll along the city’s historic canals and center.

Is this for you?

Who it's for

Couples, friends and families with older children on a day trip to Delft follow clues from the Eastern Gate to the windmill De Roos, past Koornmarkt, the Markt and both great churches, over 2.8 km and about 2.5 hours, with stories of Vermeer, Van Leeuwenhoek and the House of Orange. If you would rather have a guide to answer questions or spend your time inside the museums you pass, book a tour or museum visit instead.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the Delft city game start and finish?
It starts at the Eastern Gate and finishes at Delft Windmill de Roos. The route does not return to the start, so plan your onward trip from the windmill. In between you pass Koornmarkt, the Markt, Nieuwe Kerk, the Old Church and Museum Prinsenhof Delft.
Is there a self-guided city game in Delft?
Yes. This is a city game played on your phone: the app leads you from place to place through the historic centre, tells the story of each spot and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. You start whenever you like, with no group to join and no guide.
Does the route pass Koornmarkt?
Yes. Koornmarkt is the second stop, right after the Eastern Gate. From there the route continues to the Medisch Farmaceutisch Museum, Saint Hippolytus Chapel and the Stadhuis on the Markt, then on to the Vermeer Centrum and the Old Church.
How long does it take and can we pause?
Most players take about 2.5 hours, walking and puzzles included, over a route of 2.8 km. You can pause at any point, stop for a coffee or lunch in the old centre, and continue later from where you left off.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so couples, friends and families can share a single game. There is no time slot to book: you start at the Eastern Gate whenever it suits you.
Is Highlights of Delft a guided Delft pottery tour?
No. It is an app-guided puzzle walk through Delft. It uses the city’s blue pottery, history and landmarks as its setting rather than providing a hosted tour.
Is this experience self-guided?
Yes. The Questo app guides you from clue to clue without a guide or fixed start time, so you can start when it suits you and pause along the way.
How many accesses does our group need?
Classic quests sell access per device and player. Each person who wants to solve clues on their own phone needs their own access.
