The experience

About this quest

Occupation, betrayal and resistance. Play a city exploration game and journey through the epicentre of Paris, the City of Light, and to discover its dark history during World War Two. Get to know the hidden spots and stories that reveal the Nazi strategy of occupation and the city's eventual liberation.

Are you ready to discover another side of Paris?

Is this for you?

Who it's for

Second World War history fans, couples and families with teenagers will get a 4.7 km daytime walk from the Charles de Gaulle Statue past Le Meurice, Hotel Regina and the Louvre to Quai de Montebello, with the story of occupation, betrayal and liberation told where it happened. Allow about 2.5 hours with puzzles. Younger children may find the dark subject heavy, and anyone wanting a live guide to question should choose a guided tour.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Paris history app I can use for a self-guided walk?
Yes. This quest is played on your phone. The app leads you from place to place through central Paris, tells the story of each stop during the Second World War occupation and liberation, and sets a puzzle based on what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join.
Where does the World War Two walk start and finish?
It starts at the Charles de Gaulle Statue and finishes at Quai de Montebello, so it is not a loop. On the way you pass the Winston Churchill Statue, Place de la Concorde, Le Meurice, Hotel Regina, the Louvre, Pont des Arts and Pont Neuf.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take about 2.5 hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. The route covers 4.7 km through the centre of Paris. You can pause at any point and continue later, so you can stop for a coffee or a meal along the way.
Is it suitable for children?
It is recommended for families, and it suits teenagers best. The story deals with occupation, betrayal and resistance during the war, which younger children may find heavy, and the distance of 4.7 km is a fair walk for small legs.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
Yes, one ticket covers the whole group playing together on the walk. There is no set time to book: start whenever you like, ideally during the day, and pause and pick up again later if you need to.
Is the Paris Occupation and Liberation quest based on real history?
The route uses Paris’s real Second World War history as its subject. It presents that history through a clue-led city game, rather than a conventional guided lecture or tour.
Is this experience self-guided?
Yes. The Questo app guides you from clue to clue, with no guide or fixed start time. You can begin when it suits you and pause along the way.
How many accesses does our group need?
Classic quests sell access per device and player. Each person who wants to solve clues on their own phone needs their own access.
