Frequently asked questions

What does this Belle Epoque walk through Montmartre cover?
It follows the artists, thrill-seeking bourgeois and gangsters of the Belle Epoque through the houses, bars and music halls they knew. Stops include the Bateau-Lavoir, Sacré-Cœur, the Musée de Montmartre, the Lapin Agile, the Moulin de la Galette, the Van Gogh brothers' apartment, Rue Tourlaque and Montmartre Cemetery.
Is this an app or a guided tour?
It is played in an app on your phone, with no guide and no group to join. The app leads you from place to place, tells the story of each stop and sets a puzzle based on what is in front of you. You can start any time and pause to continue later.
Where does it start and where is the Moulin Rouge on the route?
The walk starts at Place des Abbesses and climbs through Montmartre before finishing at the Moulin Rouge, the last of ten stops. It is not a loop, so you end at the Moulin Rouge rather than back where you began.
How long does it take and how hard is the walking?
Most players take around two hours, including walking and puzzles, over about 3.6 km. The route has varied terrain and changes in elevation, so it may not suit people with limited mobility. Comfortable shoes help on the Montmartre hills.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
Yes, one ticket covers the whole group playing together on the route. There is no time slot to book: start whenever suits you, and pause along the way if you want a break in a café, then pick up where you left off.
What era does the Paris Belle Époque quest explore?
It is set around the artistic and nightlife world of Belle Époque Montmartre. The clue trail uses artists, music halls and the era’s atmosphere as the route’s cultural starting point.
Is this experience self-guided?
Yes. The Questo app guides you from clue to clue, with no guide or fixed start time. You can begin when it suits you and pause along the way.
How many accesses does our group need?
Classic quests sell access per device and player. Each person who wants to solve clues on their own phone needs their own access.
