Families with children old enough to enjoy clues, and groups of friends spending a day or weekend in Aachen, will get a story-led walk through the old town. You follow the trail of Charlemagne's lost treasure past the Roman baths, the Cathedral and the Rathaus in about 75 minutes over 1.1 km. If you would rather ask a live guide about the Cathedral's history, a guided tour suits you better.

Karl der Große is the German name for Charlemagne, the ruler who shaped Europe from his throne in Aachen. This quest follows his story through the old town, from the Cathedral and the Palace Courtyard to the Rathaus and Charlemagne's Fountain.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at the Elisenbrunnen and finishes at Charlemagne's Fountain, so it does not end where it began. On the way you pass the Ancient Roman Bathhouse, Aachen Cathedral, the Fountain of Puppets, the Palace Courtyard, Aula Carolina, Karlshof and the Rathaus.
How long does it take?
Most players take about 75 minutes, which includes walking and solving the puzzles. The route itself is short, around 1.1 km through the old town. You can pause along the way and continue later, so there is no need to rush between stops.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, it is tagged family friendly. The puzzles are based on what you can see at each stop, so children old enough to read and enjoy clues can take part, while younger ones may need help. Bring a fully charged phone or a power bank.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
