The experience

About this quest

Play a city game to discover the strange events of Lisbon, one of the oldest European capital cities.

You’ll learn about the cultures that are still in today’s Lisbon, sometimes forgotten but more often dissimulated, such as Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Portuguese.

Are you ready to find out this city’s mysteries?

Is this for you?

Who it's for

First-time visitors, couples and families with school-age children who want Lisbon's old town in a single walk: Carmo, Rossio, the Rua Augusta arch, the cathedral, the Roman theatre and the castle, with stories of the Romans, Moors and other peoples who shaped the city. Frequently asked questions

Where is Lisbon's old town, and which parts does this walk cover?
The route runs through the heart of old Lisbon: from the Carmo area down to Rossio Square and the Baixa, past the Arco da Rua Augusta and the Monument to King José I, then up to Lisbon Cathedral, the Roman theatre museum, Castelo de S. Jorge and Igreja de Santa Luzia.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at the Old Convent of the Holy Trinity and finishes at Igreja de Santa Luzia. It is not a loop, so you end up on the far side of the old town from where you began, close to Castelo de S. Jorge.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take close to three hours, including walking and solving the puzzles, over about 3.2 km. You can pause at any point and continue later, so it is easy to stop for lunch or a coffee along the way. It is best played during the day.
Is it suitable for children, and can we play as a group?
Yes. The quest is tagged kid friendly and recommended for families, and it suits school-age children who can manage close to three hours on foot. One ticket covers the whole group playing together on the same route.
Do we need to book a time slot?
No. There is no group to join and no guide to meet, so you can start whenever you like. Go to the Old Convent of the Holy Trinity, open the game on your phone and it leads you from stop to stop.
What stories does Old Town Lisbon: Strange Events explore?
The quest follows the traces left by Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Portuguese people in Lisbon, using a fictional mystery to connect the city’s layered history.
Is this experience self-guided?
Yes. The Questo app guides you from clue to clue, with no guide or fixed start time. You can begin when it suits you and pause along the way.
How many accesses does our group need?
Classic quests sell access per device and player. Each person who wants to solve clues on their own phone needs their own access.
