This scavenger hunt takes you to several interesting and beautiful locations in Plattsburgh where environmental ethics come to life! You will walk along the Saranac River, through SUNY Plattsburgh's campus, and into the central city. Along the way you will observe interactions between humans and the environment, and consider how they shape our community.

Where does the scavenger hunt start and finish?
It starts at SUNY Plattsburgh Campus/Community Garden and finishes at Plattsburgh The Lake City, so it does not end where it began. On the way you follow the Saranac River Trail, pass the Max Moore Memorial Treehouse and the NYSEG Environmental Restoration Site, then reach stops including Migrations and Woods and Wild Things.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take around two and a quarter hours, walking and tasks included, and the route covers 4.1 km. You can pause at any point and continue later, so it is easy to split the walk or stop for a break along the river.
Is it suitable for kids?
Yes, it is marked family friendly and suits school-age children best, since the tasks ask you to observe how people and nature interact along the river, on campus and in the city. The distance and time make it a long outing for very young children.
Do we need to book a time or pay to play as a group?
No. It is free to play, and you can start whenever you like on your own phone. There is no group to join and no guide to meet, so friends or families can set off together at a time that suits them.
What should we bring, and is it all outdoors?
The whole route is outdoors, along the Saranac River, through campus and into the city. Wear a hat and sunscreen, carry enough water, and make sure your phone is fully charged or bring a power bank, as the app guides you the entire way.
