We are a group of language students and we played the game with our teacher: a great and fun way to practise, and learn interesting stuff about our city that we didn't know.
Perfect with a group of A Level pupils. Loved it.
Quests for classes
Barcelona's school quests are concentrated in the old city: the Roman and medieval lanes of the Gothic Quarter around the Cathedral and Plaça Nova, El Born and Parc de la Ciutadella, with longer routes through the Modernista Eixample and up Montjuïc. For Key Stage 3, Barcelona Detective Mystery follows the Roman walls from the Barcino letters, and Gaudí's Barcelona takes in the Sagrada Família, Sant Pau and Casa Batlló. Sixth form can play The Gothic Trail, the most reviewed route in the city, while Key Stage 2 classes have The Lost Dragon and a Kid Quest in Ciutadella. Quests cover ages 8 to 18.

Teams of 3 to 5 share one phone.
Under-14s: one adult per 2 to 3 teams, agreed checkpoints at named squares in the narrow Gothic Quarter; 14 to 18 per school policy.
TMB's T-grup is one shared card for 70 metro, bus or tram journeys over 30 days, with 75-minute transfers.
The T-escolar needs Barcelona IMEB accreditation, so most visiting schools use T-grup.
Free-standing public toilets are scarce, with a few self-cleaning cabins on La Rambla, the waterfront and major squares.
Plan stops at stations, museums, shopping centres or El Corte Ingles.
Parc de la Ciutadella, beside El Born, is the usual shaded picnic spot.
Barcelona's coexistence byelaw, tightened in February 2026, fines damage to public space, so keep pupils off monuments and bin litter.
The Picasso Museum is free for under-18s with booking, and MACBA and CCCB in El Raval are free for under-16s.
If rain spoils the day, replay the quest free within 30 days.
Caution: Pickpockets target La Rambla and central metro stations such as Liceu and Passeig de Gracia, often grabbing phones as doors close. Keep each team's phone in hand or a zipped pocket.
Roman Barcino (the Roman wall, the Temple of Augustus on Carrer del Paradís, the Via Sepulcral Romana and the Barcino letters at Plaça Nova); medieval Barcelona (the Cathedral, Santa Maria del Pi, Santa Maria del Mar and El Call, the old Jewish quarter); the 1714 siege, remembered at the Fossar de les Moreres and El Born.
Urban geography and map reading, comparing the narrow medieval lanes of the Gothic Quarter with the street grid of the Eixample; orientation using numbered points in Parc de la Ciutadella; how markets such as the Boqueria, Santa Caterina and Sant Antoni shape their neighbourhoods.
The Gothic Trail, Gaudí's Barcelona and Rescue in Barcelona can be played in Spanish, French or German, so a language class can play in its target language. All pupils practise reading and following written instructions.
Teams share one phone, divide roles, agree answers together and keep to checkpoints and meeting times in a busy city centre.

In short
A school trip to Barcelona with Questo is a self-guided city quest. Pupils in teams of 3 to 5 follow a route of 10 to 15 stops on foot, solving a puzzle at each, in 50 to 145 minutes. 12 quests suit classes aged 8 to 18. There is no guide and no time slot: the class starts when it arrives. The price is €5 per pupil, and teachers play free.
Pupils are an estimate: groups of four or more teams starting one quest together, at about four pupils a team, across all cities since 2018. Ratings are from players of these quests.
In a randomised study of 10,912 students, a single cultural trip raised critical thinking, tolerance and interest in culture weeks later.
458 Amsterdam pupils walked the medieval city in teams, solving tasks on phones at real locations. They learned more than classmates taught the same topic in lessons.

Across hundreds of studies, game-based learning beats non-game teaching on knowledge and retention; story and playing together are what make the difference.
