We are a group of language students and we played the game with our teacher: a great and fun way to practise, and learn interesting stuff about our city that we didn't know.
Perfect with a group of A Level pupils. Loved it.
Quests for classes
A school day in Iași with Questo moves between the old centre around Piața Unirii and the Palace of Culture and the green Copou district, home of the Anastasie Fătu Botanical Garden. For classes working in English, two quests carry the day. Garden's Knights is a fantasy trail inside the Botanical Garden for 11 to 14 year olds. Murder Mystery: Death in the Shadows is a 90-minute case for 14 to 18 year olds that starts at the National Theatre and passes the statues of Moldavian princes and chroniclers. Classes who read Romanian can add Iașul Bântuit II, a ghost-story route and the most-rated quest here, or Traseul Pelerinului, a church trail for ages 8 to 11.

Starts at Teatrul Național „Vasile Alecsandri”
Moldavian rulers and chroniclers, met through the statues of Dimitrie Cantemir, Alexandru Lăpușneanu and Miron Costin
Teams of 3 to 5 pupils share one phone.
Under-14s: one adult per 2 to 3 teams with agreed checkpoints; 14 to 18 per your school's policy, as trams cross the centre.
The centre is walkable, from the Palace of Culture up to Copou Park.
CTP Iași runs trams and buses; we found no group fare, so each person needs a 4 lei 120-minute ticket.
Public toilets are scarce in Iași and often out of order, so do not rely on them.
Plan stops at museums, cafes and the shopping centre beside Palas Garden.
Classes eat packed lunches on the lawns of Palas Public Garden, south of the Palace of Culture, or in Copou Park.
Keep pupils off statues and the Lions' Obelisk and take rubbish away.
Palace of Culture museums charge pupils 75 percent less, free for school groups on each month's first Tuesday; shops beside Palas Garden offer free shelter.
Replay rain-spoiled quests free within 30 days.
Caution: Piața Unirii is one of the busiest crossroads in the centre. Cross by the underground passage towards Bulevardul Ștefan cel Mare and watch for trams running along the boulevard.
Moldavian rulers and chroniclers, through the statues of Dimitrie Cantemir, Alexandru Lăpușneanu and Miron Costin; the Union Museum; and the square named after the Jewish victims of the June 1941 Iași pogrom (Murder Mystery, ages 14 to 18).
Map reading and finding the way inside the large Botanical Garden; how the centre, Copou and the tram network fit together; working out routes between squares, churches and statues.
Reading and following written instructions in English (Garden's Knights, Murder Mystery). Iașul Bântuit II and Traseul Pelerinului are in Romanian, which makes them a reading task for pupils learning Romanian.
Sharing roles in a small team, reasoning from evidence to solve a case, and behaving respectfully in places of worship and at a memorial square.

In short
A school trip to Iași with Questo is a self-guided city quest. Pupils in teams of 3 to 5 follow a route of 11 to 12 stops on foot, solving a puzzle at each, in 70 to 90 minutes. 2 quests suit classes aged 11 to 18. There is no guide and no time slot: the class starts when it arrives. The price is €5 per pupil, and teachers play free.
Pupils are an estimate: groups of four or more teams starting one quest together, at about four pupils a team, across all cities since 2018. Ratings are from players of these quests.
In a randomised study of 10,912 students, a single cultural trip raised critical thinking, tolerance and interest in culture weeks later.
458 Amsterdam pupils walked the medieval city in teams, solving tasks on phones at real locations. They learned more than classmates taught the same topic in lessons.

Across hundreds of studies, game-based learning beats non-game teaching on knowledge and retention; story and playing together are what make the difference.
