Frequently asked questions
Where does the Cassiobury Park trail start and finish?
It starts at Point Alpha: The Recruitment Hub and is a loop, so the final stop, Point Omega: The Kill-Switch Signal, brings you back to where you began. Along the way you pass the Gade Siphon, a canal cryptogram and stops through Whippendell Woods.
How long does it take, and can we pause?
Most players take about an hour and a half, walking and puzzles included, over 1.6 km. There is no set start time and you can pause and carry on later. Make sure your phone is fully charged or bring a power bank.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. It is rated easy and tagged family friendly, with a wartime spy story that suits primary-school-age children. They solve puzzles using what is in front of them, such as codes at the canal locks. Younger children may need an adult to help with the code-breaking.
Do we need to pay or book to play as a family or group?
No. It is free to play and there is no time slot to book. You play on a phone at your own pace, with no group to join and no guide, so the whole family or a group of friends can set off whenever it suits.
Is it all outdoors, and can we go in any weather?
The route is entirely outdoors, following the river and canal locks and passing through Whippendell Woods, so dress for the weather. Do not attempt it when the river is high; pick another day if water levels are up after heavy rain.
