Über dieses Abenteuer
The Kotahena quest is for those interested in understanding more about how community faiths can play a significant role in the history of a city. During the walk, you will go back in time to places that played a significant role in the late 19th century Colombo.
It rewards those who savour stories about community contribution. While the walk is intended to be around 2 hours, it might take longer if you step in to explore the places. The walk has a special vibe to it, when tried on a Poya day.
Passt das zu euch?
Für wen es ist
Travellers and locals curious about how Buddhist, Hindu and Christian communities shaped late 19th century Colombo can see it all in one walk: churches, kovils, St. Anthony's Shrine and a Buddhist vihara, with audio stories and medium-level puzzles. Catholic pilgrims and Poya day visitors will find it especially fitting. If you would rather not cover 3.4 km over close to three hours, or dress modestly for temple visits, choose a shorter route.

Häufig gestellte Fragen
Where in Kotahena does the walk start and finish?
The walk starts at the Christian Reformed Church of Sri Lanka and finishes at Dipaduththarama Thai Raja Maha Vihara in Kotahena. It does not return to the start. The app guides you on foot from stop to stop, so you only need to find the first church.
Which kovils and other places of worship are on the route?
In walking order: Christian Reformed Church, Statue of Vivekananda, Sri Siva Subramaniaswami Temple, St. Thomas Church, St. Anthony's Shrine in Kochchikade, Ponnambalavaneswarar Temple, Sri Munniandi Kaliamman Temple, McLarens Maritime Academy, St. Lucia's Cathedral and Dipaduththarama Thai Raja Maha Vihara.
How long does the walk take and how far is it?
The route covers 3.4 km, and most players take around 2 hours 40 minutes including walking and puzzles. It can run longer if you step inside the temples and churches to look around. You can pause at any point and continue later.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
Yes, one ticket covers the whole group playing together on a phone. There is no set start time, no group to join and no guide to meet, so you can begin whenever suits you, including on a Poya day, when the walk has a special atmosphere.
Is there anything we should prepare before we go?
Dress respectfully, since the route passes Hindu temples, churches and a Buddhist vihara and you may want to step inside. Make sure your phone is fully charged or bring a power bank, as the stories are played as audio and the walk lasts close to three hours.
