Keys are a symbol of Leiden, and this walk builds its mystery around five lost keys: Memory, Knowledge, Freedom, Courage and Truth. You track them across the city by solving puzzles, passing a stop called The Keys Above the Market before reaching the ruin that opens the final lock.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts at Rembrandtplaats and finishes at The Ruin That Opens the Final Lock, so it is not a loop. Along the way you pass stops including the Japan Museum SieboldHuis, The Alley of Forbidden Words and The Hill Where Leiden Began.
How long does it take and how far is it?
Most players take about 2 hours 15 minutes, including walking and solving the puzzles, over roughly 3.3 km. You can pause and continue later, so there is no need to finish it in one go. Bring a hat, sunscreen and enough water on warm days.
