First-time visitors, couples and families get a daytime walk of about 2.4 km past gabled canal houses, old bridges, Westerkerk, the 9 Streets and the quiet Begijnhof, solving riddles hidden in the buildings as they go. It works well as an on-foot alternative to a canal cruise. If walking for close to two hours is too much, or you want a live guide to explain the architecture, choose something else.

Where does the canal walk start and finish?
It starts at Dam Square and finishes at the Amsterdam Museum, so it does not end where it began. On the way you pass Torensluis, the Homomonument, Descartes House, Westerkerk, the 9 Streets, Felix Meritis, the Forward Leaning House, Begijnhof and Café De Dokter.
How long does it take and how far do you walk?
Most players take about 100 minutes, so allow an hour and three quarters or a little more, including walking and solving the riddles. The route covers about 2.4 km through the canal belt and is best played during the day.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, it is recommended for families. It suits children old enough to follow clues and work on riddles about the houses, bridges and churches with an adult, and who can comfortably walk 2.4 km over about 100 minutes.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so friends, couples or a family can follow the clues on one phone and solve the riddles as a team while walking the route.
Do we need to book a time, and can we take a break?
No time slot is needed. You start whenever you like at Dam Square, with no group to join and no guide to wait for. You can pause, stop for a coffee along the canals, and continue the game later.
