Is there a city quest I can play in Madeira?
Yes. This self-guided quest runs through Funchal and is played on your phone. You walk about 1.8 km between stops such as the fort, the Cathedral, Zarco and Jardim, hearing the story of each place and solving a puzzle there, in about an hour and a half.
How do Cristiano Ronaldo and Christopher Columbus feature in the quest?
They act as your guides, together with Henry the Navigator. The route starts at a stop called CR7 and later passes one called Navigator, and these famous figures lead you through challenges, curious items to collect and Funchal history told with a twist.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at the CR7 stop and is a loop, so the Great Finale brings you back to where you began. In between you pass Worker’s Gift, Through the Lens, the fort, the Cathedral, Zarco, Jardim, Navigator and Santa Catarina, about 1.8 km in total.
Is it good for kids?
Yes, it is tagged family friendly and suits school-age children who enjoy puzzles and collecting items along the way. Plan for around 90 minutes of walking and challenges, and bring hats, sunscreen and water. The route is open around the clock, but daylight hours work better.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
One ticket covers the whole group playing together. There is no set start time and no guide to meet, so you begin whenever you like. You can also pause the quest and continue later, which helps if anyone needs a rest or a break from the sun.
