What is the Columbus quest in Hamburg?
It is a self-guided story game on your phone. You play Christopher Columbus, stranded in Hamburg with your friend Arthur after a shipwreck, and you must cross the city to rejoin your ship. The app leads you from place to place, tells each place's story and sets puzzles in what is around you.
Where does the route from Jungfernstieg go, and where does it finish?
It starts at Jungfernstieg and runs through the Passagenviertel, the Town Hall, St. Nicholas and St. Michael's churches, Portuguese street, Blockbräu, the Cap San Diego and Niederbaumbrücke before finishing at the Elbphilharmonie. It does not return to the start.
How long does it take and how far do we walk?
Most players take about three hours, walking and puzzles included, over roughly 4.4 km. You can pause the game and continue later, so there is time for a break along the way. Bring a charged phone or a power bank, and water.
Is it suitable for children, and can we play as a group?
Yes, it is family friendly and suits school-age children who enjoy solving clues and walking a few hours. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so a family or group of friends can share one phone and solve the puzzles as a team.
Do we need to book a start time?
No. There is no group to join and no guide to meet, so you can start whenever you like at Jungfernstieg. The game is played outdoors, so plan around the weather and bring a hat, sunscreen and water on warm days.
