Yes, it is a paid game you play on your phone. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, and there is no time slot to book, so you can start whenever you reach Belém Tower.
What is the Belém map hunt?
It is a self-guided treasure hunt through Belém. The app leads you from stop to stop, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you, covering the Portuguese Discoveries era at sites such as Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Jerónimos Monastery and Pastéis de Belém.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at Belém Tower and finishes at MAAT, so it does not return to the start. In between you pass the Belem Lighthouse, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, the Rose Compass, Praça do Império, Jerónimos Monastery, Pastéis de Belém, Palácio Nacional de Belém and the Tejo Power Station.
How long does it take, and can we pause?
Most players take about 2 hours 15 minutes for the 3.5 km route, walking and puzzles included. You can pause whenever you like, for example for a stop at Pastéis de Belém, and continue later from where you left off.
Is it good for kids?
It is recommended for families. The puzzles use what you see at each stop, which suits school-age children who can comfortably walk 3.5 km over a couple of hours. It is an outdoor walk and best played during the day.
