Is there a self-guided walking tour of Newport, RI?
Yes. This is a self-guided detective walk played on your phone. The app leads you between Gilded Age and downtown landmarks, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle at every stop. There is no guide and no group to join, so you start whenever you like.
Where does the quest start and finish, and how long does it take?
It starts at The Elms on the mansion side of town and finishes at Bowen's Wharf on the harborfront, so it is not a loop. The route covers 2.8 km, and most players take about two hours with walking and puzzles included. You can pause and continue later.
Is it a good activity for teenagers?
The story is a theft investigation rather than a murder, built around lost fortunes, old debts and Gilded Age rivalry. It is written with adults and mixed groups in mind, so teenagers who enjoy puzzles and some history should be comfortable with the story and the walk of about two hours.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
Yes, you can play together as a group, and one ticket covers the whole group. There is no set time slot to book: you start whenever suits you, walk at your own pace and can pause the game and pick it up again later.
