Forget every ghost story you've heard about this city. This Halloween, ten restless spirits are loose on its streets. 👻 No history book knows their names. No tour guide has heard of them. Most are just lost souls. One is lying to you. 💀
A hooded Oracle needs a ghost hunter. Every spirit is stuck on unfinished business: solve its mystery, catch it, and it gives up a clue. Follow the trail across town, crack ciphers and riddles (some only the street itself can answer), then name the Evil One and destroy it before it finds you. 🕷️

Starting at the New Haven Free Public Library, the 2.4 km trail winds around the Green past Trinity on the Green, Vanderbilt Hall and City Hall, catching ten spirits through ciphers and street riddles in around 90 minutes. Escape-room friends or a family with older kids will enjoy working out which ghost is lying. If you want a live guide recounting real local hauntings, pick a guided walk instead.

Is this a scavenger hunt around New Haven?
In effect, yes. Your phone leads you between 10 stops downtown, including New Haven Green, Trinity on the Green Episcopal Church, Vanderbilt Hall and City Hall. At each one you solve a riddle or cipher, some answerable only from the street in front of you, to catch a spirit and collect a clue.
How is this different from a guided ghost tour in New Haven?
There is no guide and no fixed start time. You begin when you like and play at your own pace while the app tells the story of each place. The ten spirits are original characters rather than familiar local legends, and your goal is to work out which one is lying, then name and destroy it.
Is it good for families with kids?
It suits families with older kids and teens best, roughly 10 and up. The puzzles are ciphers and riddles that need some patience, and the Horror & Haunts story involves restless spirits and an Evil One, which may be too spooky for younger children.
Where does it start and how long does it take?
The hunt starts at the New Haven Free Public Library and covers about 2.4 km on foot. Most groups take around 90 minutes. You can pause at any point and pick up where you left off later, so there is time for a break along the way.
Do we need to book a time, and can our group play together?
No time slot is needed. You can start whenever suits you, day or evening, and one ticket covers your whole group, so friends or family can solve the riddles and catch the spirits together as a team.
