What is the Oz game in Austin?
It is an outdoor, escape-room-style game played on your phone. A story inspired by L. Frank Baum's original 1900 Oz novel leads you between real places around The Domain, where you solve puzzles to outsmart the witch. Original Oz-themed songs made for the game play in the app.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at Macy's and finishes at Plank Provisions. In between you pass stops such as Gloria's Latin Cuisine, The NORTHSIDE Lawn, RH Austin The Gallery at the Domain, Sprinkles Austin and CRÚ Food & Wine Bar, following clues from one location to the next.
How long does it take?
Most players take a little over two hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. The route covers about 2 km, so the time goes mostly into cracking clues rather than covering distance. You can go at your own pace.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. You can team up with friends or family and solve the puzzles together, and one ticket covers the whole group playing together. If you prefer to go alone, you can tackle the witch's challenges solo and compare your result on the leaderboard.
Do we need to book a time, and can we pause?
No time slot is needed. There is no guide and no group to join, so you start whenever suits you on your phone. You can also pause the game, take a break at one of the cafes or restaurants on the route, and continue later.
