Over deze quest

Osaka, present day. You were a merchant of the Edo period, sailing to Dotonbori to trade in the finest goods Japan could offer. A storm at sea hurled you 300 years into the future.
The canal still shimmers. The smell of takoyaki and grilled offal still drifts through the alleys. But the signs are burning with electric light, and nobody recognizes your clothes. The city they once called the Kitchen of the Nation has kept its promise, and then some.
This walking quest through Osaka's iconic food district traces the real history of Japan's most celebrated cuisine, from the origins of street food to ancient market traditions, through the temples and theatres that shaped the city's soul.

Is dit iets voor jullie?

Voor wie het is

First-time visitors and food lovers heading to Dotonbori and Kuromon Market get the story behind takoyaki, konamon and grilled offal, seen through the eyes of an Edo-period merchant lost in time. Couples and friends set their own pace over about two and a half hours and 3.2 km. If you want a live guide handing out tastings and answering questions, a booked group food tour will suit you better.

Veelgestelde vragen

What is Osaka food known for?
Osaka was once called the Kitchen of the Nation, and its street food still fills the alleys: takoyaki, konamon and grilled offal. This walk tells the story behind those dishes at places such as the Dotonbori Konamon Museum, a horumon grill on Dotonbori and Kuromon Market.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts at Ebisu Bridge and finishes at Namba Yasaka Shrine, so it does not end where it began. In between you pass Showa-taishu-horumon Dotombori, the Dotonbori Konamon Museum, Hozenji Temple, Ukiyo Shoji, Kuromon Market, the National Bunraku Theatre and Namba Grand Kagetsu.
How long does it take and how far is it?
Most players take about two and a half hours, including walking and solving the puzzles at each stop. The route covers 3.2 km on foot through Dotonbori and Namba. You can pause at any point and continue later, so a long lunch stop is no problem.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together on a phone. There is no set departure and no group to join, so you can start whenever you like and move at your own pace without a guide.
What time of day is best to play?
The quest is best played during the day. Daylight makes it easier to follow the route between stops such as Kuromon Market and Hozenji Temple and to spot the details the puzzles ask you to look for.
