Visitors curious about the Palio and its 17 contrade, including those who have seen the race and want the story behind it, walk 3.3 km from Porta Camollia to Piazza del Campo past district churches, a contrada museum and fountains, solving puzzles on the way. Allow a little over three hours. If you want a live guide to quiz about Palio rivalries, or three hours on foot is too much, choose something else.

Is this a self-guided walk through Siena's contrade?
Yes. The app leads you from stop to stop on your phone, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join, so you start whenever you like and set your own pace.
What are Siena's 17 contrade, and which ones does the route visit?
The contrade are 17 historic districts born in the Middle Ages to support the city's defense, each with its own symbols, rituals and identity. The route passes places linked to Istrice, Lupa, Bruco, Giraffa, Selva and Torre, including the Istrice church and museum and several contrada fountains.
Where does the quest start and finish, and how long does it take?
It starts at Porta Camollia and finishes in Piazza del Campo, so it is a one-way route rather than a loop. The walk covers about 3.3 km, and most players take a little over three hours including the puzzles.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so friends or family can follow the clues and solve the puzzles side by side on the walk from Porta Camollia to Piazza del Campo.
Do we need to book a time, and can we pause?
No booking is needed. The route is open 24/7, though it is better in daylight, and you can pause and continue later. Make sure your phone is fully charged or bring a power bank, since the whole quest runs on it.
