Is this a new kind of escape room in Indianapolis?
It is an outdoor, escape-room-style game played on your phone rather than in a locked room. You walk between real places around Massachusetts Ave, follow an Oz story inspired by Baum's 1900 novel and solve puzzles set in what is in front of you, with original songs along the way.
Where does it start and how long does it take?
It starts and finishes at the Indianapolis Fire Fighters Museum, so the route is a loop. Plan on around 90 minutes to walk about 2.4 km and solve the puzzles. You can take longer if you like, since there is no clock you have to beat.
Can we play as a group, or on our own?
Both work. One ticket covers your whole group, up to the number of devices stated, so friends or a family can crack the puzzles together. Solo players can take on the witch's challenges alone and see how they compare on the leaderboard.
Do we need to book a time slot, and can we pause?
No time slot is needed. There is no guide or other group to meet, so you start whenever suits you and play at your own pace. You can pause, for example for a meal at one of the restaurants along the route, and continue later.
Is it suitable for kids, and what happens if it rains?
Families with children play it together, and it suits kids who enjoy clues and can follow a story, with adults helping on harder puzzles. The whole game is outdoors on city streets, so dress for the weather, or pause on a wet day and finish another time.
