You are Knifepaw, the fiercest feline prowler in the city, and your turf has just been breached by an audacious rat on the run. With help from a few furry friends—each with their own secrets—you’ll follow real-world clues, solve puzzles, and uncover the rodent’s trail through Chicago’s most charming corners.

Cat and animal lovers, friends and families with school-age kids get to play Knifepaw, a street cat chasing a runaway rat through the side streets and alleys of Lincoln Park and Old Town, from Oz Park to the Second City Theatre. Plan on about two and a half hours and 4.8 km on foot. Anyone wanting a short stroll, or a live guide to quiz on neighborhood history, should pick something else.

Does the rat hunt go through Oz Park?
Yes. Oz Park is the third stop, after the Former Reebie Storage Warehouse and the Ann Halsted House. You play Knifepaw, a cat tracking a rat on the run, and follow its trail from there to places like the Midwest Buddhist Temple and the Second City Theatre.
Is this a Lincoln Park Zoo scavenger hunt?
No, the route does not go into the zoo. It is a walking game through the streets and alleys of Lincoln Park and Old Town, with 15 stops including Oz Park, St Michael Catholic Church and the Henry Gerber House. No attraction tickets are needed at any stop.
Where does it start and finish, and how long does it take?
You start at the Former Reebie Storage Warehouse and finish at Wooden Alley, so it does not end where it began. The route covers about 4.8 km, and most players take around two and a half hours, walking and puzzles included.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
One ticket covers the whole group playing together on a phone. There is no set start time and no group to join, so you begin whenever suits you. You can also pause partway and pick up the trail later.
Is it good for kids?
The playful cat and rat story suits families, and the puzzles are set in what you see at each stop. It works best for school-age children who can manage about 4.8 km of walking over roughly two and a half hours, mostly outdoors.
